ELEGANT 1950s' BLACK VELVET CAP WITH TURQUOISE CURLED FEATHERS * BLACK VEIL

This is an elegant sample of the fabulous fashions of the 1950s'! It consists of an asymmetrical cap made of a stiff material covered on top by beautiful black velvet, and lined inside with a shiny fabric. The quills of the wonderful turquoise curled feathers are wrapped in black grosgrain, and are placed where a curled wire covered in the same velvet as the hat is attached. There is a full veil attached. It can be placed on top of the hat if desired. Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.
