Century in Europe, especially in France. The toque is made. of. very fine cream colored straw, and it is supposed to sit on top of the head, The asymmetrical style has flexible 'edges at each side, which are supposed to keep the hat in place. The upturned narrow "brim" at the front is trimmed with a beautiful pattern of white beads. There is a coordinating beige color veil, which can be worn over the face, tying it at the back, or placed top.
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head.
