The armored skull had a short drooping snout with a horny beak to bite off plants. Like other ankylosaurs, it was covered by bony armor plates, with rows of large high-ridged scutes. The tail club of ankylosaurs is thought to be a defensive weapon. A 2009 study concluded that the large ankylosaur clubs could make enough force while swinging, that it could break bones during impact. In 2013 Paul Penkalski and William T. Blows did research to show the original skeleton of Euoplocephalus may be a combination of several other related ankylosaurs.
