EVAN PICONE TAILORED FOR HUDSON'S MEN'S BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED LUXURY BLAZER UNIQUE CREATION AMAZING FABRIC COLORFUL EVAN PICONE The company was founded in 1949 when Charles Evans came to Picone with a skirt design that he wanted to sell. Picone, a tailor, made the sample overnight. The men went into business, and the Evan-Picone brand of conservative, timeless sportswear quickly became a success. It was sold to Revlon for $12 million in 1962, but Picone bought the company back four years later. In 1981, he sold it again, this time to Palm Beach Inc. He remained chairman until he retired in 1983. HUDSON'S Founded in 1881 by Joseph Lowthian Hudson, the store thrived during the record growth of Detroit and the auto industry in the first half of the 20th century. In 1909, J.L. Hudson invested in a start-up automobile manufacturer which was named the Hudson Motor Car Company in his honor. In 1891, he moved the store to Gratiot Avenue and Farmer Street. The store eventually consisted of 25 floors, two half-floors, a mezzanine, and four basements. The store had 700 fitting rooms, 51 passenger elevators, 17 freight elevators, eight employee elevators, and 48 escalators. In addition to being one of the largest department stores, Hudson's was also known for owning the world's largest flag. As the city's decline in population, reputation, and wealth continued, Hudson's downtown store closed on Jan. 17, 1983, after more than 90 years of business.
