He was best known for his modernist painting style and made extensive use of bright colors and abstract shapes. Waterman was born in Rotterdam and studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. He traveled extensively in Europe and was inspired by the avant-garde artists of the time. In the 1920s and 1930s Waterman mainly made paintings and drawings of cityscapes and landscapes, but later his work became increasingly abstract and geometric. He experimented with different materials and techniques and also made a lot of graphic work. Waterman was an influential artist and his work can be seen in various museums and galleries around the world. His artistic legacy lives on to this day and inspires many others.
