This vase is a one-of-a-kind piece painted by Edward Diers for Rookwood Pottery that will make a beautiful addition to any collection. In a classic Art Nouveau style, the blue morning glory flowers and green vines and leaves stand out against a background that fades from gray to light blue. The vase was manufactured in the United States in the early 1900s and is signed by the artist. This large vase is a true collector’s piece and would complement any display.
Edward George Diers (Ed Diers) was born on December 27, 1870 In Cincinnati, Ohio. He was educated at the Ohio Mechanics Institute, Industrial Art School and the Cincinnati Art Academy. He decorated at Rookwood Pottery from 1896 until 1931. His work can be found primarily in Vellum Glaze, including some large and beautiful plaques. The decor of this artist, in terms of color and composition, often contrasts with the work of other Rookwood artists and is considered by collectors to be above average. Edward Diers died in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 17, 1947.
The vase is marked on the bottom with the Rookwood symbol and the artist’s signature “ED” mark. This item does have crazing which is expected due to age. See photos for size and additional details.
