Since the Middle Ages, the city of Faenza, known as a production site for pottery, experienced rapid development during the Renaissance period due to the production of Majolica. Tin-glazed pottery was introduced from the island of Majorca, but it was in this town that artisans began to apply vibrant colors through high-temperature firing. As the city declined politically, many potters left Faenza, resulting in the spread of their techniques throughout Italy and beyond the Alps into Europe.
It's a decorative plate with the traditional PAVONA peacock pattern. The border pattern surrounding the central peacock (which also appears to be traditional) is equally lavish. This is a very elegant decorative plate. Please consider displaying it at your entrance or in your room in lieu of a painting. It is a one-of-a-kind item.
