Essentials of Geography Second Book Wisconsin Edition. Printed by American Book Company 1916
This cloth hardcover book shows substantial wear, but it's special wear in my opinion. (See what I found!)
The Outside cover is well worn, with stains and spots, peeling binding, and rough corners. Someone has carved a smiley face in the front.
The inside cover has notes and drawings by some sassy youth named Allen Nichols of Taylor, WI on the 24th of Sept 1918 (a Tuesday according to him, which I verified.) He wrote: Dont Steal this book for here you see a hachet and my name allen nichols Taylor Wis Sept 24 T. 18
followed by "its dangerous" with an arrow. He also drew various pictures of what appear to be military men, and there is another scrawl that reads "9 rules to learn in gramar
The next page reads "you will go out tonight followed by "who with?" and a scratched out name.
Title page has a drawing of the a ship North Carolina with notes about her stats underneath. No North Carolina ship in WWI, so this is made up by kiddo.
My Genealogy studies unearthed: He was 6'2" with grey eyes and brown hair. His WWII draft states he had a bad elbow, scar on his back, leaking of heart, and weak eyes. His dad's father was Norwegian. I have his daughter Dixie's book "Jane Stewardess and sister Irene's Modern Biology listed as well.
