In this painting, a person of unlabeled gender shows off their metal teeth, taking pride in the rough life they've lived, rather than being ashamed of survival. I think there is beauty in being different, and in loving it, and that coming from a poor background and dangerous environment is a strength, not a source of shame. I think people with privileged lives over-glorify their own virtues, while people from underprivileged backgrounds are often looked down on, and also blamed, for their own struggles and difficult upbringing. Personally, I think virtues are easy to come by when you already live a comfortable life. I'm more interested in painting people who, like me, are working hard every day for what little they have, and who take pride and find joy in it.
Original artwork is on 11x14-inch canvas panel, and is signed and dated on the front and back and also named and described on the back. The eyebrow bars and fingernails are painted with iridescent acrylic, meaning the eyebrow bars are green or blue, and the finger nails are pink or dark blue, depending on the angle the painting is viewed from. The tattoos on the hand and neck, and the metal teeth, are painted in metallic acrylic, meaning they give off a bright metallic shine in bright light and a dark metallic gleam in the shade. The diamond earring is painted with pearlescent white acrylic and silver metallic paint, meaning it shines and glitters at many viewing angles.
