Extremely Rare Cellini Craft Handwrought Tiled Double Server

Extremely rare Cellini Craft Handwrought tiled double server, Circa 1920s, designed by Max Willie (MW initials), 18" x 8" x 4.5” Features two lids with tile inserts, solid cast handle/finials. Very minor wear, hairline to one tile. The Cellini Craft Shop was established in Evanston, Illinois in 1914 by Walter Gerlach and Hans Grag. Following the ethos of the Arts & Crafts/Mission movement established by Stickley, Roycroft, etc., they focused on HandWrought Silver and Argental items. Argental (from the French word for silver) was a proprietary aluminum alloy, at the turn of the century aluminum was rare and considered a semi precious metal, the Carbon Fiber of the time.
