First discovered in Tanzania in 1967, they were given their name and introduced to the jewelery market by Tiffany & Co. To this day, it remains one of the rarest and most sought after gemstones in the world, often set in high end luxury jewelry and averaging around $5,000/carat for small, vibrant stones, up to about $10,000/carat for stones over 1 carat, with large stones being unbelievablely rare.
