Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro was a most influential person of nineteenth century Portuguese culture with a remarkable production of ceramic creation. He attended the Belas Artes school. In 1884 he began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças in Caldas. His remarkable work was awarded with the gold medals in international exhibitions of Madrid, Antwerp, Paris, and in St. Louis.
