This fabulous example of glamorous spring/summer millinery fashions from the 30s' consists of a cap made of black straw. There is an interesting bow at the front that is made of a narrow straw band. Surrounding it are beautiful fabric flowers and stems, as photographed. To add to the glamour, there is a long black veil that can be used as a scarf.
A toque is small cap or bonnet having a narrow brim or no brim at all. Toques were popular from the 13th to the 16th century in Europe, especially France. The mode was revived in the 1930s.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue and most of the time it states the hat size…22 or 23, or ADJUSTABLE.
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
