FASHIONABLE 1940s BLACK MULTI-FABRIC/MESH HAT WITH PINK OSTRICH & BLACK FEATHERS

This is a post WWII black fabric hat, which consists of a donut shaped brim made of a nubby-like fabric. There is no crown, however the donut 'hole' is covered in netting...see photos.Over the brim there is a gathered layer of taffeta. Pink ostrich feathers decorate the sides and front of the hat, and a black feather sprays from one side. Quite a fashion statement! The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular.
