bluestofskies These are man made of resin, they are definitely not Baltic amber. Maybe include the word “faux” as some folks who don’t know the difference might be disappointed

lacyspace0 @bluestofskies hi I am aware that there are some versions that are made with epoxy resin, however I was told it was baltic amber by the maker and his explanation sounded legit but I do not know anything about epoxy and resin. I obviously need to change my listing but I was wondering if you could tell me how you're able to tell the difference so I don't make this mistake again

bluestofskies @lacynhargrove it is extremely rare to find intact insects encased in real amber. Sometimes amber can be found with an identifiable bit of an insect’s body or wing, but entire an intact insect would likely be a museum level piece, with a corresponding price tag. Usually there are inclusions like tiny bits of pollen or other botanical detritus, which can give a beautiful shading to the amber.

bluestofskies I saw people selling “amber” containing whole mosquitoes, etc., in the late 1980s-early 1990s. The color was right but these pieces were manufactured the week before, not the product of a million years or more of fossilization. I have read that you can heat a needle or a pin and scratch or hold it against a piece of amber; if it emits a balsamic, woody or piney scent, it is authentic - but I have never tried this. Best of luck to you

lacyspace0 @bluestofskies thank you! I hate that! I try really hard actually to be very accurate and authentic with my listings, this is the second mistake this year already. I got excited and believed this old man at the flea market with images of dino DNA strands floating through my head.... guess I'll change this listing then just in case
