It comes from Fendi's iconic "Baguette" runway collection - the season was designed by Karl Lagerfeld in homage of the intricate hand-beaded, hand-embroidered designs of their most upscale baguettes. Lagerfeld was head designer of Chanel at the time and Fendi famously gave him carte blanche to produce the most extravagant, most expensive, most fanciful clothing line he could dream of. And this skirt was produced with a matching baguette, making this a real "Holy Grail" fashion piece. The base of the skirt is a silver-grey stretchy tulle mesh. It's a simple pencil cut with ruffles down the side hems. The skirt is nearly entirely covered in a hand-beaded hexagon pattern, with hexes filled in with hand-embroidered metallic thread. Just imagine the work that went into each one, the craftsmen hand-sewing metal through mesh and threading it with beads. Each piece is unique and each one is a masterpiece. And, despite being 20 years old, the skirt has no breaks, tears or issues. It was worn one time, about 10 minutes, for a fashion shoot, and was put into archive. The original belt was replaced with a raw-edged leatherette corded belt.
