Wear it with lots of red jewelry at holiday parties? From the early 60s, this is crushed rayon velvet in a rich deep green. Square necklines like this were popular in the early 60s. The bodice is fitted the skirt is slightly ballooned and most BRILLIANTLY pleated at the waist. Check the close ups of the waist and you will see some geometric pleating that shows up at waist only and does not go down to hem, creating a slightly ballooned skirt. The bodice is lined in faded taffeta. This dress has its original hem and what makes this extremely unique is that it is lined with a type of paper fabric that was known as "Pellon" in the skirt, the hem of which is sewn to the paper. It looks like there may have been a tulle crinoline underneath it but it was cut away. It has been dry cleaned, and it came back from the dry cleaner with a small split in the fabric (shown in close up and circled area in photo of whole dress) which was patched on the inside, so you will see a hole (shown) in the paper lining That I had to make in order to patch the split. This does not show very easily on the outside because of the color variations in the crushed velvet. It has a back metal zipper on the low back.
