Own a piece of history with this sixteen-piece World War II era collection from First Commemorative Mint. During World War II, the United States Mint made three short-lived "emergency" coins that helped the U.S. war effort by freeing up strategic metals. Examples of all three coins are included in this set: 1943 Lincoln Steel Penny, 1942-1945 Jefferson Silver Nickel, 1944-1946 Lincoln Shell Case Penny. In addition to the U.S. Mint helping America's war effort, the U.S. Postal Office also did it's part by issuing stamps to support the war. In 1943-1944, it issued a set of 13 "Overrun Countries" stamps to show support for Allied nations occupied by Axis forces. Each stamp features an occupied nation's flag and has a 5c face value to pay the overseas postage rate. To the left of each flag is a phoenix, symbolizing the renew of life, and to the right is a kneeling female figure with arms raised, breaking the shackles of servitude. The collection comes on a colorful and informative mount and packaged in a vinyl folio (8" x 4.5") for storage and display. The coins are circulated and dates may vary within dates of issue.
