✿ Brief summary: In 1515 Ponce de León completed the division of the island into two Parties, in accordance with the order of King Ferdinand. He used the course of the Río Camuy in the north and Río Jacaguas in the south to establish boundaries of the regions. Towards the east of the rivers, the district of Puerto Rico; To the west, the district of San Germán. The two-party system was in force until 1692, when urban parties were created. The term party refers to territories of various neighborhoods subject to a central government; Later the word was used as a synonym for municipal jurisdiction.
In his work, Abbad y Lasierra describes the towns of each party and provides us with valuable information on all aspects of the life, organization, government and history of the inhabitants of Puerto Rico.
