Hey guys! I’ve been asked at least a dozen times how trades work, and I know Posh has new users everyday, so I’ve created this step-by-step guide to walk you through it. Feel free to ask questions! I’m here to help.
Please read my comments below as I do not have the space I need to complete this post.
Trading can be a lot of fun if done properly. Just know that all trades are made at your own risk so you MUST trust the other party in order for the trade to be successful.

Posh ALLOWS trades, but they do not support them- meaning that if the trade goes badly, Posh cannot and will not do anything to help you. So make sure that you look at the person’s trade history and love notes to make sure they have ample experience and they have references vouching that they are trustworthy. Let me explain how it works and then I can further expand this point.

In order to trade, both parties must first agree on what to trade. Once the items are decided upon, both parties will lower their prices to $3 (minimum allowed on Posh) and then ship items as normal sales. Once received, each person will accept and leave the appropriate review or love note.

With that said, if the other person is a scammer, s/he (let’s just say She) might not mail your package at all and just receive yours. Or she might mail you a box of trash so that it shows up on the scan. If you sense something is fishy before your package gets to them, you can try to have USPS stop your package. If that doesn’t work, you can file a claim or report them to the authorities for fraud.

Sometimes, people are not “scammers,” but they are not completely honest about the flaws on their items. Make sure you ask for tons of photos before deciding to trade and ask all necessary questions. Remember to ask about strange smells or damages not shown in pictures. Also ask that the person show a size reference so that the item isn’t a different size than imagined.

If you receive your item but decide you don’t like it, it’s up to the other person if they’re willing to trade back. It costs $8.95 every time you trade which is the $3+$5.95 shipping. Trading back is usually something both parties decide upon before finalizing the trade.

Trading can be a lot of fun and you will meet a ton of amazing ladies on Posh who share the same love of fashion as you, but sad to say, you have to use caution. Happy Poshing! 💕
Jan 07Reply

crhan
Note: sometimes, a person with lots of trade history might ask a first-timer or someone with very little history to ship first. This is normal, but again, use caution and make sure you trust that person if you send your item first. Posh allows the exchanging of phone numbers so get their number if that makes you feel more at ease about the transaction :)

sofiad13
Where would you exchange the addresses?
Jan 23Reply

crhan
@sofiad13 u don’t really exchange addresses, not in that sense. After you purchase each other’s listings for $3, posh will email you a label. You affix that on your package and it will have the person’s address on it along with the barcode and tracking number
Jan 23Reply

sofiad13

@onlyjamie I thought of you when I read this because I remembered you telling me 🅿️🅿️ would cover trades and you said you wouldn’t need to ship first even though you have no trade history and I’ve been trading 5 years on Posh. I thought if you read it on another experienced traders page, you would see she said exactly what I did 😘 Only trying to help!
Feb 03Reply

crhan
@nikkidahl I don’t understand what you’re saying... can you explain? Are u sure that was me? Doesn’t sound like something I’d say. It covers sales if u click “merchandise” and the item isn’t as expected. If it’s damaged, a replica or you simply don’t receive it. But if you put friends and family, it’s not covered. I didn’t know what u meant by “u don’t have to ship first”
Feb 03Reply

crhan
@nikkidahl u don’t have to ship first if u don’t want to- ever. It’s by choice. And someone with more trade history might ask you to do so and if u agree and feel comfortable, then u can. But u don’t have to do it
Feb 03Reply

crhan
@nikkidahl ohhhhh you’re talking to someone else! HAHAHA I get it now. Ok no wonder I was so confused 😄
Feb 03Reply

nikkidahl
@crhan I’m sorry to confuse you! I had another Posher who wanted to trade plus pay on 🅿️🅿️ my diamond ring for her Loubs plus remaining on 🅿️ and she had no trade history, I have tons. I was explaining to her she would have to ship first
Feb 03Reply

nikkidahl
@crhan because she has only 2 transactions on Posh and never traded and she tried telling me that 🅿️ would cover my ring that appraised at $15,000 and I know that was not true because they don’t refund the value of your ring, only what the buyer pays. I loved your post because it’s almost exactly what I was explaining to her and wanted her to read it. You have amazing history 😊. Sorry for the confusion!!! 😘
Feb 03Reply

crhan
@nikkidahl no worries :) and thank you! 😊
Feb 03Reply

onlyjamie
@nikkidahl I don’t think you understood me either, I know what 🅿️ covers, the amount paid, I was talking posh covers it because it’s done as a purchase for the $3. I understand how the trading works, I just haven’t traded yet and it is unnerving a little, which is why I didn’t feel too comfortable with money and my bag. Thank you though
Feb 03Reply

nikkidahl
@onlyjamie No I didn’t misunderstand, you clearly wrote on my page “I see people exchange for the “$3” all the time on Posh so it’s covered through 🅿️🅿️”. Now you are saying you understand how trading works saying “I know what 🅿️ covers, it’s the amount you paid, I was talking Posh covers it because it is done as a transaction for $3”.
Feb 03Reply

nikkidahl
@onlyjamie Then if it is covered by Posh for the $3 transaction, why is trading unnerving if it’s covered?? I was only help to educate a fellow Posher on trading, but you claim you know so I apologize for trying to help. Ask any Posher that trades if what you wrote is a true statement. Good luck on Posh!
Feb 03Reply

nikkidahl
@crhan I am so sorry I took up space on your feed, I was only trying to help a fellow Posher who I feel doesn’t know much about trading from her statements (especially the one above stating Posh covers trading because it’s done as a transaction for $3) and I loved your post “steps by steps to trading” and thought she would benefit from reading it. I think she took offense to it. Again, my apologies!!
Feb 03Reply

crhan
@nikkidahl no worries! I don’t mind 😊

@crhan I love this! I’m newish to Poshmark but have had several very successful trading experiences thus far. I am a little nervous each time though if I’m honest. I’ve read some horror stories on here about people getting scammed. Would you mind if I shared this to my closet as well?

You're missing a first step: ask people nicely if they wanna trade "Would you trade? Do you trade?..." instead of just "Trade" and especially if they stated No Trades on the listing, why bother asking? Lots of Poshers will find that annoying, just fyi.
