In Greek Mythology, Ovid tells of how King Minos of Crete imprisoned the ingenious inventor, Daedalus, and his beloved son, Icarus. Intent on escape, Daedalus studied the movement of birds and constructed wings for human use out of feathers, beeswax, and thread. Using the wings Daedalus and Icarus both flew out of their prison. But against his father's warnings, Icarus flew too high towards the heavens, the sun melted the beeswax holding the wings together, and Icarus plunged to his death in the sea below. For millennia, the story of Icarus has served as an encouragement for humans to balance innovation with humility. Celebrate the Flight of Icarus, with handmade necklace!
This gold unisex necklace features at its center a gold-plated brass Art nouveau style pendant of Icarus in flight, To the left are a circular custom gold charm with "Icarus" printed on it in black old-fashioned font, and a golden wings charm. To the right are golden sun charm, and a golden sea waves charm. This Greek Mythology necklace has been newly handmade just for you, and is adjustable from 18 to 26.25 inches (can be made shorter or longer upon request).
