Fortunoff Four-Strand Pearl & Gemstone Necklace 18 Inches, 75g, Vintage

Lively four-strand necklace from Fortunoff combines a multiplicity of gems and colors. Plays cool colors against warm metallics, luster against transparency, in low-contrast values. These slight differences tease the eye and brain trying to tell them apart. Freshwater pearls range from petite to medium in size and round to baroque in shape, and are dyed in a variety of greys, copper, and gold. Spacer beads consists of orange amber, small purple spheres (whose uneven surface suggests natural stone, possibly amethyst) and clear grey tubes resembling smoky quartz. (Each is unique in shape like a real stone, but I think they are glass.) I believe the tiny gold beads are likely 14k yellow gold, which Fortunoff used in less-expensive necklaces I bought around the time. Goldtone clasp. Includes Fortunoff storage bag. Weighs 75 grams. I purchased this necklace from the Fifth Avenue Fortunoff store sometime after 9/11, when New Yorkers were instructed to save the city by shopping. I've worn it about a dozen times. No signs of wear, and it was just cleaned. Can be worn straight or twisted. A unique and lustrous design that looks richer than its price tag.
