"Fostoria Leaf Shaped Footed Salt Cellars were made in 1969 for a limited production run.
The use of salt cellars dates back to ancient Rome, but their popularity declined in the early 20th century after the introduction of free-flowing salt in 1911. Today, salt shakers have almost completely replaced salt cellars."
