Girl Scouting was started in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low. She and ber cousin, Nina Pape, en-listed 18 girls into the Girl Guides on March
12. One year later, their name changed to Girl Scouts. Since its inception, more than 52 million American girls and adults bave participated in scouting, making the Girl Scouts of America the largest voluntary organization for girls in the world. This stamp commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts. The 14 merit badges depicted were selected to show the wide range of Girl Scout training
