Hand-painted Vallauris Pottery Wall Tile, Trivet or Cheese Serving Platter. Made from terracotta clay finished with an abstract floral design and creamy pearlescent glaze. Likely 1950s, from the studio of Robert Picault, who used “La Roue Vallauris” among his signatures. Vallauris, France is the center for pottery on the French Riviera, near Cannes. Pottery has been made there since ancient times. The area grew as a pottery centre in the late 19th century, and many companies have since flourished. SIZE: Measures 8 3/4” diameter (wide / across). About 1/2” H. CONDITION: This piece is glossy and fully intact on the front, with several chips on the back and side.
