Frye Samantha Hiker boots in size 9. These have only been worn a couple times. They might need to be re-soled. There is an issue with the integrity of the heel and that’s why I didn’t wear them. Priced accordingly

amc1129 Hello, what exactly is wrong with the heel?

gianna_ricci @amc1129 moisture from snow/rain causes bottom layers of the stacked heel to expand and the rubber sole isn’t properly attached to the stacked heel. When I first noticed the issue I reached out to customer service and they were willing to help but I did not follow through. That was a few years ago and I haven’t worn them since

gianna_ricci @westandwander I found the photos from my original transaction with customer arrive. I’ll add them. In the photos it looks like I let the heel dry out before taking them. I also have the transactions with customer service and can share those if necessary

gianna_ricci @westandwander actually they were described as waterproof in the item description. I think “hiker” was just used in the name because these are absolutely not hiking boots and are fashion boots

gianna_ricci @westandwander The customer service representative said it was a manufacturer’s defect. These were not exposed to a large amount of water, just a slushy day running errands. Even a large amount of water shouldn’t have compromised the heel in that way - I think that’s why there would have been no issue replacing the boots through Frye. I once had a pair of boots resoled for $20 at a boot repair shop but it was only the sole and not the heel as well

elizakatherine @gianna_ricci hi! I was wondering if these were left unfixed how you think they would hold up? I.e., are they coming apart pretty badly, and likely to continue to come apart? I thought about taking them to a repair shop, but depending on the cost to repair wondered if it could just be left. And is it just the rubber bottom part coming apart or is the heel itself coming apart from the leather, too? Hope that makes sense… thanks!
