GIANNI VERSACE c. 1983 Vintage Oroton Metal Mesh Chainmail

This rare and iconic vintage Gianni Versace evening top from c. 1983 is crafted from Oroton metal. Gianni Versace invented Oroton in 1982 when he was looking for a material that combined the particular texture of metal with the fluidity of silk. Instead of linking single metal plates with rings, he put them onto a base of metal mesh grid and thus created an innovative fabric that allowed for a soft drape and natural silhouettes. Garments crafted from Oroton belong to Versace's most iconic and recognizable designs. Early pieces are hard to come by and highly desirable collector's items.
