This is a beautiful black felt tilt hat from the 1940s'. The round crown is indented at the top and is surrounded by a medium width downturned brim that is positioned assymetrically. Around the crown there is a wide grosgrain band that crisscrosses at the back. The cap underneath the brim helps keep the hat in a tilted position, and is trimmed with a large grosgrain bow. A gorgeous arrangement of yellow feathers emerge upwards and backwards. One of the feathers is thin and long, and extends towards the back. There is some black veiling attached around the crown, but it does not intended to cover the face.Stunning!!
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
PRINTED INSIDE OF HAT: Glenover - HENRY POLLACK.
