How can I tell they are real?
thepurplechest
@dita1969
Very good question.
The luster on the pearls is one indicator, the unique shapes and markings are another. If you do buy them you can show to your local jeweler for confirmation, the nacre, weight, luster, organic shapes should be recognized by your jeweler.
You can also do some research on comparable items - the features and size should be borne out.
I bought these at a pearl market in the Far East and know a little bit about pearls.

Sorry I can’t provide a formal certificate, I’m not a licensed jeweler but I talk to and deal with them. I am thinking of getting certified but that’s going to be a few more years if and when I have time. Right now shopping during my business trips is a hobby for me. Hope this helps. Don’t buy if you’re not comfortable. It’s okay. But consider this - how much will you pay for costume pearls right now?
dita1969
@thepurplechest thank you, will think about it.

@thepurplechest. Hi while married my eco was in the high end jewelry biz. The easiest way to know if the pearls are real is use your teeth and scrape them across the pearl. If it is grainy it’s real, if no grit, way too smooth then they’re a fake. Hope that helps
thepurplechest
@hisloveheals
Yes. That’s really a full proof and traditional way to do it when you’re inspecting the pearls in person. Thanks for sharing 😊💜😊

what is the spacer ring made of
bluelasercs
I plan to restring that, but you said it is fresh water, south sea pearl should be saltwater, right?
bluelasercs
do you have 2 of them
thepurplechest
@bluelasercs
The spacers are non tarnish light metal alloy.
thepurplechest
@bluelasercs
Yes I have 2 remaining.

@bluelasercs
The oysters are indeed saltwater inhabitants but I’ve used the term freshwater so buyers don’t think these are ‘wild’ pearls. As they are cultured. I hope this helps.
Your idea to restring is an excellent one. I had thought that myself but I’ve been too busy to get into that for now.

@bluelasercs
By the way I have more bracelets in my closet, and also in my personal actual closet. Same batch of cultured pearls just different enhancers.

Loose beads work for me too. Maybe one day , we see each other in the jewelry show, I collect jewelry parts and have been practicing how to make them and design them liking a second job
bluelasercs
I dont want to waste the citrine beads, I can wait when u got a chance to show me. Thx so much
