German Feather Tree from The Feather Tree Company features deep black dyed feathers spiked and wrapped around the branches with an orange wooden base. This tree features orange beads at the end of each branch to simulate berries. These beads are a match to the wooden base. This is perfect for Halloween or any season, with the right decor! The tree is approximately 26 inches in height with 23 branches. The base is approximately 3.75 inches tall and approximately 3.25 inches wide at its base. Please see our detailed photos for more item specifics! A little history! The feather tree was created as an alternative to fir trees in Germany in the late 1800s. Taking the tops of fir trees was detrimental to the lumber industry so this new kind of tree was creatively born! They are made by attaching dyed feathers to a wooden dowel or wire branches to form the trunk and tree branches. The feathers are painted. These became popular in the US in the 1950s before aluminum trees took over. Your tree will have the branches in toward the trunk for shipping. We recommend, when you pull them out to display your tree, simply put a finger on the bead on the end of each branch and push the branch out. This way, you do not touch the feathers themselves!
