The preppy pleated style and the subtle sheen make this way more sophisticated than your average kids' dress-up skirt. Appaman is a prestige brand, sold by Saks and Garnet Hill (among others) and known for quality; this is beautifully made. The tag says it's 100 percent cotton (I think the sheen is an acrylic coating) that can be machine-washed and dried on low heat. (I always hung it to dry.) It's marked as a size 5, but if memory serves it's a generous 5. You know how sometimes you're sad when your kid gets too big for something? Yeah.
