This hardcover edition of Faust: A Tragedy by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe has a decorative olive cloth cover with floral stamped detail, in red and green with gilt lettering, on the front cover & spine. It has an etching of Goethe and an illustrated frontispiece with tissue guard. In very good antiquarian condition. The binding is tight. The pages are secure in the binding with the exception of the tissue guard which is separated by about an inch at the top pf the page. All pages intact with no tears, folding or creases. There is a bit of discoloration to the cover and some yellowing that is commensurate with age. Some bumping and wear to the cover, spine and edges. The top of the spine has pulled away from the binding. Two names are written on the inside cover but no other writing in the book. Considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. This 19th Century English language version is edited and annotated by F.H. Hedge.
