Gorgeous NOS Vtg.40's William Schmidt Hand Knit Norwegian Wool Sweater - L

Incredibly beautiful classic Norwegian Sweater. In Brand New condition with original tags from the Oslo Sweater Shop in the late 40's. Still has striped ribbon w/gold seal attached & extra button tied onto the sweater with a piece of yarn. This is an amazing rare find. It is a beautiful creamy white with an ornately patterned Fair Isle stranded knitting yoke in red, black, gold & green. 9 shiny pewter buttons in wildflower pattern plus 1 extra - ( 10 altogether. ) The elaborate floral patterned yokes in these sweaters were originally made to adorn a woman's neckline as if she were wearing a fancy necklace. Thus women skilled at needlework who could not afford fine jewelry made their own colorful knitted "necklaces." 100 % fine hand spun Norwegian wool. Dry clean only. Sweater is immaculate. Here & there in the yarn you can see a bit of grass that got caught in the sheep's wool. This is not a flaw. It is a lovely sign of the authenticity of the sweater & the hand spun yarn. Measurements: PIt to PIt 18.75", Length : 25," Depth of Pattern on Yoke 10.5," Underarm to Cuff 19" w/ cuff straight or 17.5" with cuff rolled once. Best fits a Woman's L. Can also be worn oversized by a Tall Medium. Please note: These sweaters were meant to have a relaxed fit. It took a highly skilled Knitter at least 60 hrs to knit this type of sweater. To make this sweater today the materials alone would cost $350 or more. This beautiful example is a true collector's item. Also very durable!
