This is a vintage 1966-69 CorningWare Blue Cornflower 1 Quart Covered Casserole Dish! This white, glass ceramic casserole dish features Corning's signature blue cornflower design made of three flowers, stems and leaves. The square dish has two rectangular handles and clear glass lid with knob handle. Corning's glass ceramic, Pyroceram, as it was originally called, was developed for military applications during World War II. After the war, Corning discovered it was perfect to make home bakeware products because of its non-porous nature, ability to withstanding sudden temperature changes and resistance to stains and odors. And, the same dish could be used for cooking, freezing, and serving food; a huge advantage for cooks looking for kitchen shortcuts! By the 70's, CorningWare was all the rage! Now, it's in demand again because of its high-quality glass, durability and nostalgic value! New CorningWare is still produced, however, collectors and especially Baby Boomers, search for the old-fashioned floral prints their mother's had when they were kids! This dish was made between 1966-69 since the Cornflower hallmark is present in the bottom stamp. Whether you're adding to your vintage Corning collection or just beginning to collect, you'll love the nostalgic charm of Cornflower Blue CorningWare!💕Professionally authenticated.
