I’m an artist. I sewed this silk and dyed it using the rice paste resist method which is a lot of work.

pkjorn Is “rice paste method “ similar to batik?

marshaonthemove @pkjorn No, batik is much easier. I have done that too. Rice paste is a Japanese silk painting technique. We did this in college with a visiting artist from Japan. The pigment is mixed into the rice paste, applied to the silk & smoothed out. The scarf is steamed to adhere the pigment. This scarf has several layers of rice paste dye layers applied. I also applied a handmade stencil patter to it as well.

pkjorn @marsharkennedy it’s really a unique piece. Lived in Japan for years & their silk & craftsmanship is flawless. Tks for the heads up. Cheers paula 😘

marshaonthemove @pkjorn rice paste method is putting the dye in rice paste and layering colors on top of each other more like printmaking. In batik you paint on a resist and paint the dye between the resist.
