Handmade Vintage Pillowcase dress; So sweet!

This is such a great find! In the past, during times of economic hardship, such as the Great Depression, or when rations were imposed during wartime, women would make clothes from anything they could find; sheets, curtains, tablecloths, and even feed sacks. Many of the feed companies starting printing pretty designs on the sacks, knowing they would be made into clothing. We did not have a lot of money when I was a kid. My Mom made clothes, curtains and quilts from sheets and pillowcases. Vintage clothing isn’t just about fashion. It’s about how the events of those times shaped what people wore. It’s about how women found ways to feed and clothe their families and beautify their homes even when times were hard. I was unsure of the age of this dress, but then a friend told me she had these sheets as a child. They coordinated with her Holly Hobby bedspread. So that puts the sheets at late 60’s or early 70’s. When it was actually made is hard to guess, but I’d say similar timeframe. It is very skillfully constructed and in perfect condition. So this is truly your chance to own a little piece of history!
