This turquoise and silver ring is very old and handmade. Size 4 1/2, split shank, unmarked and untested. The style is that of the indigenous North American artist of the Dineh / Navajo people. These silversmiths eventually included turquoise in pieces made for sale to others outside of their communities. Some pieces were of. Purse made for the Dineh by their own artisans. Because this piece has no concrete provenance as to maker and origin, I offer it for sale as “In the style of…” I bought this ring from a jewelry and antiques dealer friend who had a few pieces left from a lot she purchased from a woman who had moved from Arizona. The lot was a collection of silver and turquoise jewelry and personal items made by Native American silversmiths.
The ring has indications of antique age, for example the turquoise nugget that has been handled over the years and is now more green than the more blue color it most likely was originally. Any “stabilization” it might have once had, if at all, is gone. The surface of the stone is either slightly worn or includes light-colored matrix (other stone surrounding turquoise)
