Hans Paul Luetcke Print Shellacked Carved Wood Vintage Owl 70s Retro MCM 20”x24”. This artwork is on wood and lacquered, it’s in good condition for age. It measures approximately 24” by 20” and is about 1.5 inches thick. It weighs approximately 4.5 pounds. The studio information where produced is shown on back (Birds prints, Fullerton Ca) . This is a Southern California estate find and not much else is known except it was purchased in 70s or 80s. It has a small chip in shellack please see photo.
American artist Hans Paul Luetcke (1925-2007) most known for his paintings of Native Americans Hans Luetcke was born in Cologne, Germany in 1925, and emigrated to the United States in 1957. After a brief stay on the East Coast, he moved to Pacific Palisades, California and remained there for many years. His last studio was in Sedona, Arizona. His work mostly focused on Native Americans where his studies took him to the South West and Mexico but he also painted animals and he studied at zoos as well as in natural environments. Luetcke studied for eight semesters at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal, Germany, and made many trips to Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy and Sicily for art studies. After arriving in the U.S., he made extensive studies of the American Indian in various States best known for Indian background. His research took him to Newfoundland as well as Mexico. Besides Indian studies he spent much time in various zoos both here and abroad.
