@d23mia hi there! As far as I know, it is original and nothing about the way it looks or is set would lead me to believe otherwise. I agree, I’ve only seen it with the green eye in photo archives, so I’m not sure why this one is different. I inherited it from my great aunt about 10 years ago. She was the original owner.
