In order to Hand Forge a knife, HC Steel has to go into a preheated fire at the temperature between 1350°F-1450°F and hold at this temperature until material is uniformly heated. After thorough preheating them the knife goes into a fire to be heated between 1800°F-1850°F and hold the Knife piece at the hardening temperature until it is completely and uniformly heated. HC is an air hardening Steel and will develop hardness on cooling in still air.
