Jane Mabry was a native of New Mexico, born in Roswell of a pioneer family who came to the state in the early 1880s. She studied at the University of New Mexico and was a pupil for several years of Gerald Cassidy, world famous artist of Santa Fe. She attended the Art Students League in New York City and Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC. Mabry was a staff artist for the National Park Service, painting National Park landscapes for the Department of the Interior, for foreign embassies, and congressional offices. Upon her return to New Mexico, her time was devoted to portraiture, and she is represented in many private collections throughout the United states. She was a charter member and past chairman of the New Mexico Arts Commission and the Pastel Society of America. Mabry later was engaged in a series of portraits of New Mexico Natives, dedicated to recording and preserving the native costumes and authentic atmosphere of the Pueblo and Navajo Indians.
