Being offered for public sale for the first time ever is this colorful yet horrifying self-portrait by New York artist George Ludlow. Entitled "House Arrest Blues" it was painted after his arrest for drunk driving and during a court mandated home self-incarceration. Often the subject of his own work, this painting is particularly important as it represents in simple primary colors the artist's fear and frustration in his attempts to handle a heroin addiction. The observer is unsure whether the lizard like tail/tongue is attached to the artist or is entering or leaving him. All we know is that is terrifying as can be seen in the eyes of the painter. Ludlow unfortunately would take his own life in 2017 leaving behind a very limited supply of his paintings and writings. Yet the small sample clearly shows the potential he had and also reveals the tragedy that the world will never see any more. Portions of the proceeds of this painting will be donated to a suicide awareness charity.
