I’m ISO a DeMellier Vancouver in black. Sadly I’ve seen a lot of fakes. I’ve owned two real bags, but bought a fake one on accident. I wanted to help others who are new to the brand spot fakes. Brown bag is REAL and is what is “for sale”. Black is fake and is NOT for sale, but for comparison. The clasp of the fake that I bought had a magnetic closure. Real ones will clasp, and do NOT have a magnet. Sellers of fakes are catching on and still calling it a clasp. It’s most obvious spotting these types of fakes by the metal square piece that the top piece clasps into. Should be smooth, not bumpy like the black bag I have pictured. Recommend requesting a photo of the interior hardware with the clasp open. Clasp Update! Now there are fakes with a smooth interior clasp. A posher reached out and just got scammed buying a smooth clasp fake. I’ve also spotted some listed. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Logo is off as the clearest giveaway. See my photos. Hardware on handles of fakes stick out too far. Be VERY suspect of "new" bags without a strap attached! The square shaped hardware holding the strap on the fakes sticks up higher, and is slightly more rectangular. Keep an eye out on the dust bags too. The letter “E” is a giveaway in spotting a fake. Not eager to let my bag go, hence the price. This is mostly an announcement to help others. Currently, the majority of DeMellier bags on Posh are fake. Scammers keep creating new accounts. Please report them. Hopefully things will change. ❤️

kellylwarner @meggie17736 thank you! 😊 As a buyer, it’s been frustrating seeing resale platforms get flooded with fakes. Posh has been slow on removal, even with reporting. Hope this can protect some people from making the same mistake I did. (Thankfully I got my money back, but still)

blue_cannton @kellylwarner I have noticed there are several fakes currently for sale on poshmark! After reading your post I ran to check my DeMellier for authenticity and thankfully it was authentic. I’m so glad you are sharing this information. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to sell a dupe/fake on platforms such as this but it needs to be advertised as such.

My main purpose of this post is letting people know what to look for in a real bag. I’m ISO this bag in black, and the fakes posted were out of control. blue_cannton Well I must retract part of my comment, I recently read Poshmark rules on what you can and cat sell and fakes/dupes are NOT allowed! Even if you identify it as such you are still using the company name which is trademarked.

Think I just spotted some with a smoother interior clasp but the logo was off. I hope these close ups of your real bags in different leather textures might help others.

I’d like to see a close up of the logo on the front of the bag, and especially the inside of the open clasp.

kellylwarner @catherinehelms one other idea too, if you’re still unsure after it arrives, maybe you could take closeup photos of the hardware and logo, and email them directly to DeMellier. Their customer service was excellent when I used it a couple of years ago.

mrao27 @kellylwarner thanks for this post! I just went through my likes and there were definitely a ton of fakes that I reported. The top handle clasps are what did it for a lot of the current listings. I think a big indicator is also the price for a NWT item. If it is like 50% below MRSP for a brand new item, its probably a fake. Please do a post for the other styles!!

One option, if you buy one and think it's fake, maybe you could send pictures to DeMellier customer service and ask, then open a return on Posh. But that could take time. I wish Posh would do better limiting fakes. I'm no longer allowed to comment on fake posts, I was just told to report them. :(

ds906 @meggie17736 Thanks for warning buyers! I’m sure I have a fake bc the metal behind the clasp is textured, not shiny. Other than that, every “E” is the right size, on bag and dust bag. But the textured metal on the back side of the arrow clasp is wrong. ☹️ Also the bag itself smells fine but the strap smells perfumey and I’m terribly allergic to scents. Oh well, live and learn. Again, thank you!! ♥️
