graceandrepeat @vwelch okay so I'm no expert, this is all based on the research I did to find out if a tiffany bracelet I had was authentic. The clasp on hers looks like it's in good shape & isn't showing any signs of tarnishing, the links look like they were soldered the way Tiffany's does it, the bracelet photographs dark, & the etching on the back has the right font & is super legible. I think it's authentic. Everything looks the way it should based on my research. 💕

graceandrepeat @vwelch there should be a 925 stamp on the base of the clasp, I would ask her to photograph that. I think if that's there you're in business

sophie01 @mamadiehlio Hi, I hope you know the answer to my Tiffany question. I bought a Tiffany Peretti cross necklace (bubble one). Nowhere on the cross does it have any hallmarks. The chain has T&Co on one side and Peretti on the other side. The spring clasp has 925 on it. Do you think this is authentic? I am concerned because there is no hallmark on the cross pendant. Thoughts???

graceandrepeat Hi there! This is what I found on Peretti jewelry "The pieces by artists such as Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso, Frank Gehry etc, will be signed as well as stamped. When buying a piece that has a chain and pendant (e.g. the Tiffany bar pendant) BOTH the pendant AND the chain will be marked Tiffany & Co 925, sometimes along with the word ITALY on the other side of the ring clasp in the back.. If the chain is marked but not the pendant, then that pendant IS NOT Tiffany! If the seller hasn't shown the markings in their photos, either ask for additional photos or don't bid." Best of luck!

I always thought that the pendant, which is the cross in this case, should have a hallmark on it however when looking at all the listings on eBay of this particular cross, I didn't see any hallmarks on any of the crosses, just the ones on the clasp which are on this necklace. I looked a long time for pics of any markings on the cross and no one on eBay had a pic of anything on the cross?? I already bought this one so it might be too late for me but I don't have any evidence that there is a hallmark that is supposed to be on the cross. I know this isn't the norm on tiffany pendants but I haven't come across even one that has a hallmark nor does anyone on eBay mention a hallmark on the cross itself?? I don't know what to think and I don't live near a tiffany store to check the authenticity. One thing, you cannot remove the pendant from the chain either so it couldn't have been swapped out. Anymore thoughts??

graceandrepeat @berbene143 lol! Well that’s an awesome deal! Check the stamp on the earrings and make sure it’s centered. The lettering shouldn’t be too close to the edges, or off-center. Their stamping is perfect, so if it’s off at all or the font looks weird, it’s probably fake. The fonts should also all match and be in alignment with the rest of the stamp. The stamps should also all be legible even through wear, so if the stamp is starting to come off or isn’t legible anymore, that’s probably fake.

graceandrepeat If they’re silver, look for the “925” stamp. If there’s any sign of wear, make sure where it’s worn down is still silver, if it’s any other color (greenish, etc), it’s probably fake. Also from what I’ve read, fakes won’t put spaces in the “please return to,” so make sure the spaces are all defined and the words aren’t all smooshed together. loatc @sophie01 I had the same question. I just received a ELSA PERETTI mini cross and 1. There are no markings in the cross. 2. The clasp on the chain is pinched and not soldered. I’m going to request a refund. :-(

I know that back then the stamping varied until more recent pieces, but I’m not sure if it ever had a version without the period at the end of Co. Everything else checks out but this absent period. elainejones Unfortunately these counterfeits are really good now. My advice u either go to the Tiffany’s store to buy it or meet someone who is selling it at a safe place. That way I can at least be able to tell the quality etc. Too hard to tell by pictures
