This figurine is 4" tall and the trademark (3 – Incised Bee) places the manufacture of this piece Circa 1959-1969. This figurine is in perfect shape, no crazing, mars, chips, or repairs. She was designed by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1951 and was originally known as “Shepherd boy kneeling with flute” and is one of the pieces in the early nativity set.
Sister Maria had a love of children, and a whimsical nature, sketching them in various situations. As always, Sister Maria draws to depict the daily items and special events in children's lives. This precious boy is kneeling and playing his flute for the Christ Child. He has his Bavarian hat on and his satchel by his side.
There is such beautiful detail in this hand painted figure - so typical of the quality of Goebel's porcelain figurines.
What a wonderful, vintage gift it would make!
