This figurine is 4" tall and the trademark (2 – Incised Bee) places the manufacture of this piece Circa 1959-1969. This figurine is in perfect shape, no crazing, mars, chips, or repairs. She was designed by master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1936 and was originally known as “Banjo Betty”.
Sister Maria had a love of children, and a whimsical nature, sketching them in various situations. As always, Sister Maria draws to depict the daily items and special events in children's lives. This little girl, in her blue dress, is sitting down with her feet crossed while she plays her banjo! It is an extremely colorful and detailed porcelain figurine made by the fabulous craftsmen at the Goebel factory so very long ago and still in pristine shape!
There is such beautiful detail in this hand painted figure - so typical of the quality of Goebel's porcelain figurines.
What a wonderful, vintage gift it would make!
