cmc514 @hotpantsrhoads thank u so much. My PCP was a PA for the longest time, she was fantastic also. Very thorough n kind, I never felt rushed. She's the reason I finally chose to apply to PA school. I had the idea but wasn't positive until I met a few PAs & realized how much they can do. I'm in MA. I'm thinking internal medicine.

lifeinstiches You are not crazy, I ❤️ the medical field well not going 😂 lol I mean I always wanted to be a vet as a kid my mom was an RN & would show me books when I was young that grossed me out. At 35 I still had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had 2 great jobs one at a desk that bored me & the other a bartender for years which I ❤️ because I am very outgoing & a people person. (Part 1 of 2)

lifeinstiches I finally got a job as a home health aide & watch all the doctor ER, mystery ones my fav. TV shows all the time, my gram passed who I was extremely close to when I turned 40 2 days after my sons BD & I also had a cleaning business. She told me during her 9 days in hospital to never become a nurse or CNA because it was the worst job ever. After she passed I was not the same for 8 months I didn't talk at all & cried so much that I retreated to my house. 👇🏻 (sorry PM lets u only type so much now😡)

lifeinstiches One day I got up & went back to college during my internship I was the only one given the dementia & hospice unit which I thought no way can I do this because I wasn't healed from my gram to my surprise I 💞 it so much I got people who never talked to talk a few nurse asked how I did it? Honestly I didn't know on to hospice ok this would be my test!

lifeinstiches I cried so hard the 1st & 2nd day. I was there all of 5 mins before someone passed & I had to do everything. It was hard but I found my calling & off I went to private duty with only dementia patients for a while then spread out. I finally knew I wanted to be a Doctor. Unfortunately it must not have been god's intention because I got injured then suck to only be disabled myself & with a few ailments that my patients had ( how odd is that?) it was my healing I guess.

lifeinstiches I am telling you this because my PA was just like yours always listened & was the only one to DX me when I fell ill she didn't give up finding an answer. That is hard to find in someone these days. I think you are going to be one he!! Of a PA 💋

lifeinstiches & if you decide to be a doc GO FOR IT! My PA pushed me to go back because she said even though I am permanently disabled doesn't mean I can't be a doc if I sit down. Bit I want to be hands on Trama & I can't stand that long. I have no idea why I decided to share this with you other then to tell you keep going Live your dream & stay in a field you really love. I am to old now with more things wrong but my PA never gave up she always dug for an answer. I have never had any other doc like her!

cmc514 @hotpantsrhoads Heidi its OK! lol It's a good story. I'm happy you found someone who took the time to find out whats really wrong, and you're right, that is hard to find sometimes. I think you have a gift, working with Dementia/hospice patients. I worked a few days on the hospice unit in internal med, it is very hard. It is very sad. I don't deal with death and dying too well yet, I need more practice in it.

cmc514 @hotpantsrhoads The hardest part was seeing the families sadness after. The people who work hospice are wonderful! We had them come to ur home too for my own family (step-father & grandfather) and the nurses were just wonderful. AS for me going back to be a doctor... NO THANKS!!! Sure when I was younger I wanted to be M.D. but as I got older and realized the amount of time & money it would take, then I found out who and what a PA actually is....

I will be so busy as it is, especially if I work internal med, I don't want to be like the docs we were just talking about with no time, and internal med docs I work with are just like that. They are amazing though and I want to work with them, not be them. They are truly over worked. Also, I am 35 woman! I want a family! A home! To travel!

lifeinstiches You will do well just like I had my calling with dementia patients & I don't do well with death of someone close to me but outside of that I don't know how but I was ok with it & comforting the families it is one of the hardest things to do but it came natural not in the first day for sure.

travelbugginger Huge Congratulations, Claire! I went back to school later in life to pursue a biology degree. What you've had to accomplish is a whole different ball game, but I get the thrill of it! How in the world do you keep up with Posh... and sleep?! ;) Seriously, I'm very happy for you. I love my primary care MD and know some great ones, but some of the best "docs" I've ever had have been the PAs... maybe because of the approach, I don't know. cmc514 @greenstar1013 Yep I WAS in PA school 😁🎓. Just passed my boards last week. I have an antique Grays too!! I got that new one as a gift and it's literally on display in my bookshelf. I also have grays for students (love) but I have Netters cards instead of atlas. You can find Harrison's online used prob for cheaper. I hate used (yeah I'm picky & nerdy lk that too) so I bought mine full price 😒 just shy of 200. I plan to read it cover to cover one day.

cmc514 @greenstar1013 OMG gross anatomy was the best lab ever. I was lucky enough to have my own cadaver at Harvard Medical School (our program is affiliated with them). I stayed hours in there alone after school making sure my dissection was perfect for my weekly presentations!! That smell though, sometimes would be stuck in my nose for days.

Im still going to apply to school next april :) I was going to this cycle, but id have to list like half my degree as in progress, and since my gpa was so bad last time I really want to get it up as much as possible so my applications don't just get thrown out. Gpa is up to a 3.9 though! Best ive ever done haha.

travelbugginger Just thought I'd bring the rest of my comment over here to your closet in case my niece is a little reticent about it. My dad passed away of brain cancer last year and she asked me to take her to get that a few days before he died. He's the one I may have mentioned was in public health and a hospital administrator... and often encouraged me to seek out a good PA... Had a lot of respect for their training and perspective! :)

travelbugginger Yes... I think you're right that the name leads people to misconceptions. It's different, I know, but when I was a flight attendant people would often board and ask me, "So which one is the pilot?" not realizing that the "co-pilot" is a full fledged pilot and sometimes with more experience, just less seniority within the company. Ahhh... "What's in a name?" ;) Hope in your profession they do change it soon. All the very best to you. I'm sure you'll be wonderful with your patients.

It still feels surreal, it took so long to happen that I often wondered if something would get in the way before I could finish. Working in Hospice is no small feat, takes a strong and special person to do that. I only have personal experience with hospice mostly. They were wonderful with my family. twk_jewelry I would love to go back to college but I don't think I have the motivation to do it. When I spent 4 years in college I was in my early 20's. I had 2 small children to raise but I had a lot of help from my husband, my mom, my friends and even the neighbors. Now I am 50 years old. I "accidentally " got pregnant my last semester of school. That was rough. My second child died in 2008, he was 24 years old.

paicar I'm in the business world, so I have no idea how difficult that process must have been for you but I def can relate to being "old" and not having the stamina of my younger peers. On a personal note, you still have plenty of time for everything else life has to offer, I didn't have my first daughter until I was 35, and even tho some days I' m exhausted I'm glad I waited and took care of myself first.
