Black Jacket/Coat with red stripes. Inside pocket. Elastic waist and wrist. Snaps on front and pockets. Shell is cotton and the lining is polyester.
From the airway to the runway, the bomber jacket has been a staple outwear style for over the last century. The bomber jacket was created in response to the advancement of jet aircraft's ability to fly to higher altitudes and colder temperatures. It was an ancestor of the original A-2 Leather Flight Jacket, which had a fleece lining, elastic sleeves and waist, and a wraparound collar.
As jet aircraft were updated, so were the uniforms for the pilots, in 1949, the B-15 Bomber evolved into the MA-1 Bomber, which changed the fur collar to an elastic collar to help ease the placement of parachute harnesses. The interior liner became orange to help spot a pilot in the event of a crash. These jackets were made in colors of midnight blue, sage green, and camouflage to help soldiers blend with the elements that they were fighting in.
The first subcultural group to adopt the bomber jacket was the original British skinheads. They wore this in opposition to the Harrington Jacket, which was worn by those known as affluent mods. They represented the working class, which is why they could not have long hair because of their jobs in factories and blue-collar settings.
