Ida Susunkewa is a member of the Hopi tribe.
She is a highly-skilled
artist. She creates her pieces
using the traditional coil and
scrape methods. Ida is able to find her clay close to her home.

Ida utilizes minerals or volcanic ash to process the clay pieces.
Each piece is polished with rocks before being painted and fired.
This polychrome piece is intricately designed with what may appear as simple geometric shapes. However every design holds meaning, and many represent symbolic or sacred items, as well as good luck or good fortune.
