Built in the early 1880s by Benjamin B. Baker, the house was a wedding present to his daughter when she became Mrs. Illingsworth. Mr. Baker, a successful merchant was involved in many local enterprises. One of those enterprises was a bakery, which may have influenced the design of the house many refer to as the "wedding cake."
